Some private health care plans will cover the costs of audiologic tests, hearing aid evaluations and even include coverage of your hearing aid. Medicare vs. Medicaid
Under current Medicare regulations, hearing loss evaluations and hearing devices are not covered. This means you’ll have to pay all costs for testing, hearing aids and supplies out-of-pocket. However, if your insurance is the original Medicare that includes a supplemental, it is possible that some supplementals will cover a portion of the hearing exam, so be sure to check with your individual policy to determine exactly what is be covered. Medicaid often does cover hearing aids and most related services, depending on your geographic location. To verify your coverage and find out exactly what your plan covers, simply call the phone number on the back of your Medicaid card.
